The Real Code of Leonardo da Vinci

תקציר

This book aims at revealing the connection between Leonardo, Judaism, and Kabbalah. This link is disclosed by analyzing what can be considered his Sacred Geometry Studies (exemplified in the Vitruvian Man), his artistic techniques involving the use of light, and what we believe to be his hidden signature: the use of the decorative pattern of knots, and Solomon’s Knot in particular. Together with the countless Hebrew letters hidden in his paintings, drawings, and notebooks, these tools were combined for the first time to reveal the real code of Leo-nardo da Vinci.

פרק ראשון

1.1 Caterina: The Mystery of Leonardo's mother and his connection with Judaism

“1452: There was born to me a grandson, the son of Ser Piero my son, on the 15th day of April, a Saturday, at the third hour of the night [about 10 p.m.]. He bears the name Leonardo.”[1]

With such a simple entry in the Da Vinci family records, the course of Western history was altered forever. His father, Ser Piero, was a notary public of 24, while his mother, Caterina, remains a mystery. Leonardo was born out of wedlock, and his mother’s name appears only once in the 1457 tax refund compiled by Leonardo’s paternal grandfather, Antonio.[2]

“Lionardo, the illegitimate son of the above-mentioned Ser Piero, born of him and Chaterina that at the present moment is the wife of Achattabrigha, son of Piero del Vaccha da Vinci, aged 5.”[3]

Who was Leonardo’s mother? And why isn’t there any other testimony of her existence?

The first theory is by Martin Kemp, emeritus professor at Oxford University. Kemp identifies Leonardo’s mother with Caterina di Meo Lippi, a poor orphan Ser Piero da Vinci seduced.[4]

Born in 1436 to a poor farmer, Caterina remained an orphan at fourteen and met Piero when she was fifteen and he was twenty-four.[5]
